My Review: This is a fun board book for very young kids. ‘Who is Sleeping?’ is a small board book, about A5 in size, with both the cover and inner pages rounded in shape, which is great for young children as they won’t hurt themselves when looking at this book. The book is part of the Baby Walker range and is perfect for teaching kids about several different animals in a fun way.
The book is very simple. On each double page kids are asked who is sleeping? Each creature is sleeping in a different location such as in a tree, on a leaf, in the rushes, etc. The creatures are hidden behind a flap that when turned reveals both an image of the animal that’s sleeping there and the text on the flap, so kids can learn the words for different animals. Each of the double pages is fun for kids to turn and it’s fun for kids to guess what animals are behind each flap. But there is a surprise ending which shows a very different creature sleeping. This ending is funny though and is one I wasn’t expecting.
The illustrations are lovely. I’ve come to really enjoy Petr Horáček’s style of illustration. Each image of the different animals and their environment is not only clear and colourful but also very fun. There’s something childlike in the style of the pictures and I think children will really find them appealing.
This is a great book not only to read together with kids at bedtime but also a great book they can look at by themselves and one which can teach kids a few words for the different animals. The book is one I just love to look at and the added fun of the flaps that can be turned plus that surprise twist ending makes this all the more fun. A great book I’d recommend.
